Welcome

Welcome to the Getting Ready website for The Arts Past and Present (AA100). The Course Team are delighted you’ve decided to study this exciting new course; this website should be your first point of call after you’ve registered for the course. It includes links to relevant study resources and suggestions for work you could do before the course begins.

Remember you don’t have to do any of this – it’s intended as a way of getting you up to speed before the course begins, if you have the time and the inclination to do so. In particular, we suggest that you look through the OU’s Skills for Study resources. Study skills are an important part of AA100, as you’ll see in Week 1, but it’s never too soon to check what’s available and how you might improve your reading and writing skills. At the end of August, you’ll get the first mailing of course materials, which will include the materials for the first half of the course.

Dr Richard D. Brown, AA100 Course Team Chair

This website will be updated during the coming months as we get nearer to the course start in October, so check back for up to date developments.

News

The course website will open to students registered on the October 2008 presentation on 18 September.

NEW: you can now watch a brief video introduction to the course on YouTube.

We have put an outline version of the course calendar online so you can also get an idea of how the various elements of the course fit together.

The Doctor Faustus radio play featured in AA100 was repeated recently on BBC Radio 3. Follow this link for background information about the production, including an interview where The Open University's Anita Pacheco talks to the producer and director Nadia Molinari about the considerations and challenges involved in transferring a stage play to recording studio.
