Dr David Mateer David Mateer was born in Belfast in 1946 and received his education at the Queen's University, Belfast, and London University (King's College), where he acquired the degrees of B.Mus. and M.Mus. respectively. After teaching Music in a Secondary Modern for two years, he embarked on his doctoral study of the English Renaissance composer Robert White, under the supervision of Peter le Huray in Cambridge. This was completed in 1976, since when he has been Lecturer in Music at a number of institutions, including University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, and King's College, London. He was appointed to his present position in 1998. Principal research interests Renaissance music generally, but with an emphasis on the Tudor and early Stuart dynasties; Elizabethan and Jacobean theatre; legal records as musicological documents. He is currently preparing two volumes of liturgical pieces from the 'Gyffard' partbooks for Early English Church Music, and working on an edition of Thomas Ravenscroft's printed music for Musica Britannica.
