Mode of study
All of this module’s study materials are online. Online materials are composed of pages of text with images, plus audio and video clips of 5–10 minutes long (all with transcripts/subtitles). Online materials also include links to external resources, online forums and online tutorial rooms.
This module provides a range of learning events, which all take place online. Although not compulsory, attendance at these online tutorials will help you consolidate your learning and we strongly recommend that you take part.
Working with others
Online forum-based activities will ask you to share your views and opinions, and to reflect on and comment on the comments and contributions made by other students.
This is a practice-based module and requires you to be working with young people in a suitable setting throughout your study of the module. Your workplace (which could be work that you do as a volunteer) will need to confirm that you have met the practice requirements of the module as part of the module assessment. As part of the assessment, you are also required to pilot a small piece of research related to your practice.

The study materials contain some diagrams, graphs and photographs. Figure descriptions are provided for all figures.
You may be required to search for, and make use of, third-party material online.
This module has seven Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs), which must be submitted online via the OU electronic TMA system, and an end-of-module assessment submitted online.
You will receive feedback from your tutor on your submitted Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs). This will help you to reflect on your TMA performance. You should refer to it to help you prepare for your next assignment.
All University modules are structured according to a set timetable and you will need time management skills to keep your studies on track. You will be supported in developing these skills.
