In preparation for Chinese New Year The Open University is celebrating with a free, fun talk and interactive workshop entitled ‘Chinese Characters Past and Present’.
Presented by Ximena Arias-McLaughlin, Head of The Open University Languages Faculty in Ireland, the talk will explore the ways in which Chinese characters were written in the past. Ximena will also discuss the evolution of Chinese characters and how computer and mobile technology have transformed the handling of characters. The importance of Mandarin in the business world today will also be discussed.
The talk is followed by a short interactive workshop, with the chance to type characters on an iPad or smart phone using The Open University’s Chinese Characters First Steps App. Please try to download the App to your iPad or smart phone at this link before attending the workshop.
