If you want to study, we’ll do everything we can to help you achieve your desired qualification. We believe our support is one of the reasons why more students choose the Open University every year than any other UK university.
It’s simple to distance learn with us. On a practical level, all you need is:
A computer and reliable broadband internet access - they’re an essential part of our study programmes.
A good grasp of the English language - our modules are taught in English and you need to be competent in the English language to study at higher-education level. See english skills.
For most of The Open University’s undergraduate degrees no formal qualifications are required, and no entry test is required to study with us.
For postgraduate degrees, an undergraduate degree equivalent to the relevant UK qualification is required.
Each course page shows details of the specific entry requirements for that course.
You’ll need the financial means to pay your course fees, which can be paid in advance or as you study. Find out all about fees, ways to pay, scholarships and employer sponsorship.
It’s important to bear in mind that any higher education course of study is rigorous.
For most Open University modules you’ll be expected to spend at least a few sessions a week working on computer-based activities, for example.
Make sure you can commit the time and dedication that will be required to your chosen course of study.
For more guidance, see time.
As The Open University is an online-learning institution, no visa is required to study with us and you won’t study on campus. Instead you simply study with us wherever you are in the world.
