Study time
Open University studies are flexible in many ways, not least their portability and accessibility.
With us, you can study full time and part time; from home and work and on the move; on paper, on screen, online and on mobile devices.
Our flexibility extends to study times, too: as well as choosing when to study, you can choose the duration of your studies.
70% of our students are in full- time employment. Most will take six years to study for a degree, studying for approximately 17 hours weekly.
As well as studying full or part-time, you can choose to vary how much you study from year to year, or even take a complete break.
There were lots of hours but the university helped a lot... For me it was very important that I could move countries, I could have children, I could take a year out… because when my youngest daughter was born I had to stop studying for a year.

Keeping your study manageable will give you a greater chance of achieving the best grades, as will a little forward planning: consider in advance how much time you’ll be able to allocate to your studies and how short or long a time you want to take to gain your qualification.
